Parenting Tips

Here are some useful pointers for first-time mothers as wel as mothers with a new addition to the family.
  • Do not hold a grudge - Even if you're still angry with your children, do try to give them praise if they apologise for something they've done wrong so they know the incident is closed. Ensure that they do not pick up any irritated vibes once their punishment is over.
  • Teach them respect - It's important that older children learn some respect for their belongings and for those of other people. Remember to help them do this by not always buying them a new toy every time you go to the store and helping them to understand that everything has its own value.
  • Think before you speak - Do realise what you threaten your children with in anger. You need to be consistent so it's important to carry out such threats whenever you issue them. Think before you speak and state warnings that you are happy to carry out.
  • Keep a balance - Try to strike a balance between the number of times you say 'yes' and 'no' during the day. If you're not sure, use a jotter pad to keep a record. That way, you will be able to keep a balance in managing your child without appearing lop-sided.
